My Man: Dorian Hargrove

I am so proud and amazed at my husband's strength and progress following the Traumatic Brain Injury he suffered two months ago. He has been asked by the organization, Think First, to speak to children and teens about his story.

I started documenting his experience when he was a patient in the Intensive Care Unit. Even then, in the back of my mind I envisioned one day his writing and my photography could be used to help raise helmet awareness, I didn't think the opportunity would come so soon. Dorian has been amazing in many ways throughout this experience. He has allowed me unfettered access to his journey, even though he says he has not had much of a choice. His openness and strength in sharing his vulnerability is poetic, artistic, and inspiring. Now, more than ever, I am so proud to be his wife and best friend. Yesterday, I staged an impromptu photo session of my man, here are some of my favorites.
A full photo story is in the works!

  1. Dorian and Aimee,

My friend and I just read your story in the Reader and are numb, happy, sad and hopeful.... for you and our beloved friend!

We are wondering if you have heard about a friend of ours that suffered a head injury during a cruise with his wife and friends?

Both your and Aimee's story really touched us because we went though much of the same uncertinatley that you have.

We want to tell that,,,,, God, you are sooo blessed that help was immediately avaialable!!! And that both you and Aimee's strength and persistance will only bring brighter days!!!!!

Maybe some time, when you have a few, you could come and visit our firend (with the permission of his family) so that you can not only motivate him, but yourselfs as well. (more "self" healing I know, but It might be good for ALL of us!!!)

Thank you for taking the time to read this.
